WHAT'S HAPPENING AT PIONEER...

The importance of 0

On the 100th day of school, Pioneer's Kindergarteners and 1st Graders had a surprise visit from none other than "Zero the Hero!"  He explained to the students the importance of "0"

Fire & Ice!!

A "Fire & Ice" assembly was presented to our 4th and 5th Graders.  The students viewed a demonstration of chemicals, dry ice and pressure.  This was the "kick off" to Pioneer's Science Fair that will take place in February.

Eco-Tainment!

Our 5th Graders recently attended an assembly about water conservation, natural resources and recycling.  All of this plus being entertained by a juggler AND our very own Mr. Smith!!

spirit week-crazy hair day!!

spirit week-sports day!!

spirit week-tye dye day!!

spirit week-star wars day!!

Worldly 2nd Graders

Pioneer's entire 2nd Grade recently performed their musical, "Holidays Around the World!"  They sang songs about the different ways holidays are celebrated around the world.  This performance coincided with their month long classroom unit also titled "holidays around the world."

Hour of Code

4th & 5th graders participating in Hour of Code during Computer Science week, December 5th-11th.

No Turkey For Perky

Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Friends were all on hand to watch Pioneer's Kindergarteners perform "No Turkey For Perky."  The students did a great job, and the audience loved it!  What a great way to kick off the Holiday Season!

Ability Awareness Week

Ability Awareness Week (AAW) took place recently at Pioneer.  The main goal of AAW is to create a more empathetic learning environment for all students; and to teach students that everyone learns in different ways, and not all things come easy.  It was a week of fun and learning, with interactive ability activities and demonstrations.  Here is a sampling of the activities our students participated in...

DIC-TION-AR-Y

The Brentwood Rotary Club, in keeping with their annual tradition, recently presented each of Pioneer's 3rd graders with a dictionary of their very own!  The students were very excited to receive these dictionaries and couldn't wait to begin using them in the classroom.  Thank you very much Brentwood Rotary Club!

This is how Pioneer celebrates Halloween...

Mrs. Simens was recently honored at the Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year dinner.  Principal, Mr. Samy D'Amico, and Vice Principal, Mrs. Denise Powell, were also on hand to congratulate Mrs. Simens.  We are so very proud of Mrs. Simens and her professionalism and dedication to teaching that has earned her the honor of being our District's Teacher of the Year!!

There's a Champion in Every Kid!

Pioneer Students were treated to the NED Show assembly recently.  The NED Show combines a positive message with humor, storytelling, audience participation and memorable object lessons like yo-yo and magic tricks.  The assembly teaches students how they can develop 3 valuable characteristics--Never Give Up; Encourage Others; Do Your Best!

Ned.jpg
The NED Yo-Yo sales were a success!!  Pioneer receives a percentage of the yo-yo sales to benefit our students.  Below are some of our students, and Mr. D'Amico, "fine tuning" their yo-yo skills!
