School Kidz supply kits are on sale now for the 2017/2018 school year! Save yourself the hassle of having to go to school supply shopping and order this kit with everything your child needs for the school year!

TK/Kinder: $50

1st grade: $89

2nd grade: $94

3rd grade: $66

4th grade: $65

5th grade: $34

Kits can be ordered online at www.shopttkits.com by May 5th. Just enter our school's account number 12747 to get started.

 Paper order forms are due by Thursday, April 20th.  Please turn them in to the basket in the main office.

 Kits will be available to pick up the week before school starts.  The exact date and time are TBA.


From April 27 to May 19th, students in grades 3 – 8 will participate in the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). 

CASSPP consists of:

  • The CAST (California Science Tests) which will be given to students in grades 5 and 8, and  
  • The SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessments) which will be given to students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and Mathematics. 

The State of California requires that 95% or greater of our students participate in the state tests. More information on CAASPP can be found at SmarterBalanced.org

Open Enrollment Period 2

The second open enrollment period allows for Intradistrict Transfer Applications from March 2 through May 1, 2017.  The second period allows consideration of Intradistrict Transfers for families who have had a change in circumstances, or may have forgotten to apply.

Applicants who submit an Intradistrict Transfer request no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 will be notified on June 1, 2017.  Forms are available at all school sites, and at the District Office.  Intradistrict Transfer Forms MUST be returned to any school office, or the District Office, no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 to be considered by the June 1ST notification date.


  • For 2017-2018, all schools will be open for intradistrict transfer requests.  All requests will be evaluated for approval based on capacity.
  • In accordance with board policy, intradistrict transfer requests on behalf of students who have been previously displaced from a closed school site will be considered on a priority basis.

El segundo periodo de matrícula abierta permite las Solicitudes para Transferencias Dentro del Distrito, empezando el 2 de Marzo al 1 de Mayo, 2017.  El segundo periodo permite la consideración para Transferencias Dentro del Distrito para familias que han tenido algún cambio en circunstancias, o que hayan olvidado solicitar.  Los solicitantes que sometan un pedido de Transferencia Dentro del Distrito no más tarde de las 4:00 p.m. el 1 de Mayo del 2017, serán notificados el 1 de Junio del 2016.  Las hojas están disponibles en todos los planteles escolares y en la Oficina del Distrito Escolar.  Las Hojas de Solicitud para Transferencias Dentro del Distrito DEBEN ser regresadas a cualquier oficina escolar, o a la Oficina del Distrito Escolar, no más tarde de las 4:00 p.m., el 1 de Mayo del 2017, para ser consideradas para la fecha de notificación, el 1 de Junio.

Parenting the Strong willed child

Parenting the Strong Willed Child is a FREE 5-week session program designed specifically for parents of strong-willed and impulsive children between the ages of 5 to 10. 

Location:  Marsh Creek Elementary

Dates:  April 27th, May 1st, May 4th, May 8th, & May 11th

second chance breakfast no longer offered

Starting Monday February 27th, " second chance" breakfast during recess will no longer be offered.

Snack bar (cash only) and FREE fruit will be available in the cafeteria daily during morning recesses.

Pioneer's Talent Exhibition

The importance of 0

On the 100th day of school, Pioneer's Kindergarteners and 1st Graders had a surprise visit from none other than "Zero the Hero!"  He explained to the students the importance of "0"


Fire & Ice!!

A "Fire & Ice" assembly was presented to our 4th and 5th Graders.  The students viewed a demonstration of chemicals, dry ice and pressure.  This was the "kick off" to Pioneer's Science Fair that will take place in February.



Our 5th Graders recently attended an assembly about water conservation, natural resources and recycling.  All of this plus being entertained by a juggler AND our very own Mr. Smith!!

Worldly 2nd Graders

Pioneer's entire 2nd Grade recently performed their musical, "Holidays Around the World!"  They sang songs about the different ways holidays are celebrated around the world.  This performance coincided with their month long classroom unit also titled "holidays around the world."

4th & 5th graders participating in Hour of Code during Computer Science week, December 5th-11th.


No Turkey For Perky

Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Friends were all on hand to watch Pioneer's Kindergarteners perform "No Turkey For Perky."  The students did a great job, and the audience loved it!  What a great way to kick off the Holiday Season!


Ability Awareness Week

Ability Awareness Week (AAW) took place recently at Pioneer.  The main goal of AAW is to create a more empathetic learning environment for all students; and to teach students that everyone learns in different ways, and not all things come easy.  It was a week of fun and learning, with interactive ability activities and demonstrations.  Here is a sampling of the activities our students participated in...


The Brentwood Rotary Club, in keeping with their annual tradition, recently presented each of Pioneer's 3rd graders with a dictionary of their very own!  The students were very excited to receive these dictionaries and couldn't wait to begin using them in the classroom.  Thank you very much Brentwood Rotary Club!

BUSD Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Simens was recently honored at the Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year dinner.  Principal, Mr. Samy D'Amico, and Vice Principal, Mrs. Denise Powell, were also on hand to congratulate Mrs. Simens.  We are so very proud of Mrs. Simens and her professionalism and dedication to teaching that has earned her the honor of being our District's Teacher of the Year!!

There's a Champion in Every Kid!

Pioneer Students were treated to the NED Show assembly recently.  The NED Show combines a positive message with humor, storytelling, audience participation and memorable object lessons like yo-yo and magic tricks.  The assembly teaches students how they can develop 3 valuable characteristics--Never Give Up; Encourage Others; Do Your Best!

The NED Yo-Yo sales were a success!!  Pioneer receives a percentage of the yo-yo sales to benefit our students.  Below are some of our students, and Mr. D'Amico, "fine tuning" their yo-yo skills!

Pioneer's 4th graders celebrated California's 166th Birthday by making California t-shirts, California cookies and even spelled out CA on the blacktop!


Barnes & Noble Book Fair

A huge thank you to all the students and families that came to the recent Barnes and Noble Book Fair.  Our very own Principal, Mr. D'Amico was a guest reader, and there was even a visit from Clyde the Colt!!

More special guests at the Book Fair, pictured below with Clyde, were Mrs. Robles, our new Librarian (on the left) and Ms. McMullen, our outgoing Librarian.  (Ms. McMullen is now a Kindergarten Teacher at Pioneer!)
